Pro Tips

Like most starting holes, this hole is a nice way to start a round of golf. Both the fairway and green are guarded on both sides by bunkers that add some teeth to this gentile hole.

BLUE 502

WHITE 490

GOLD 443

RED 438

Slope:

Blue 129 | White 127 | Gold 120

Pro Tips

This is the first of four our impressive and challenging par 5 holes. With a narrow fairway and tight out-of-bounds all down the left side, the tee shot can make or break the hole. Traversing the 491 yard to the hole, you will have to negotiate a slight uphill lie all the way to the crest of the hill which is about 125 yards short of the green. With a heavily bunkered left side of the green, players are better to keep to the right side.

RED 140

Slope:

Blue 129 | White 127 | Gold 120

Pro Tips

With the hole positioned up a slight rise, this hole plays about a club longer. The two-tiered green makes a par much harder if your ball doesn’t end up on the correct tier.

Yardage by Tee:

BLUE 611

WHITE 597

GOLD 499

RED 499

Slope:

Blue 129 | White 127 | Gold 120

Pro Tips

The goliath hole is among the longest holes in the country and stories of players reaching the green in two are the stuff of legend. The drive does not have to be perfect. Just keep it in play (you can’t get home anyway). The out-of-bounds down the left side puts just enough pressure on the player who wants his third shot from inside 150. If the hole’s length doesn’t make if hard enough, the bunker-protected green has a false front and some serious breaks.

Pro Tips

This hole is a welcome break after the trials of the 4th hole. The well-treed fairway requires some precision, but once you get past that hurdle, birdie is a possibility with a well placed second shot.

Pro Tips

There is no mystery why the members love this hole; it's also rumored to be Ben Hogan’s favorite hole on the course. It challenges the player with each shot. Well-placed fairways bunkers on both sides make every level of player think before letting it fly. If you are long enough to try for the elevated and well bunkered green in two, make sure your shot hits the mark or you are looking at a bogie or worse.

WHITE 152

GOLD 127

RED 120

Slope:

Blue 129 | White 127 | Gold 120

Pro Tips

Built in an old quarry, this hole has bunkers short and right, but a welcoming approach for those who want to roll it on to the green. The green is very challenging with its left to right slope and its false left side.

Yardage by Tee:

BLUE 430

WHITE 408

GOLD 373

RED 357

Slope:

Blue 129 | White 127 | Gold 120

Pro Tips

With one of the widest and most inviting fairways on the course, this hole has a green that sits below fairway height. The average golfer will have a blind 200-yard shot into one of the most difficult greens on the course. With only one green-side bunker, you would think missing the green would not be too penal, but you would be mistaken. If you miss the green right you had better summon all your short game skills. Even that may not be enough to save par.

Slope:

Pro Tips

The 178 yards needed to hit this par 3 are all uphill. This beautiful hole is well guarded by 3 greenside bunkers, but once you are on the green you can be aggressive with the putter.

Yardage by Tee:

BLUE 328

GOLD 225

RED 220

Slope:

Blue 129 | White 127 | Gold 120

Pro Tips

Once deemed “A Golfing Waterloo” by a 1931 Philadelphia Inquirer sportswriter, this hole has many perils but can be tamed by cautious play. It was built between two old iron mines. Your tee shot must carry the first quarry and the second quarry guards the whole left side. The small green has a deep bunker on the left and a shallow bunker on the right that will actually stop your ball from entering the quarry. It is a deceptively challenging and picturesque hole.

GOLD 123

RED 106

Slope:

Blue 129 | White 127 | Gold 120

Pro Tips

The 143 yards needed to get on the green on this par 3 hole are almost all carry. Your tee shot has to carry a large pond and avoid a deep bunker to find the generous putting surface; however, once on the green this hole gives up very few birdies.

Yardage by Tee:

BLUE 540

WHITE 527

GOLD 502

RED 479

Slope:

Blue 129 | White 127 | Gold 120

Pro Tips

Redesigned in the 1920s by William Flynn, this hole has everything a golfer could ask for. The wide, gently sloping fairway is welcoming to a well-placed tee ball. If you are fortunate enough to avoid the pond on the right, your next shot is when things get interesting. our first glimpse of the green from the fairway shows more pond than fairway. With that pond and out-of-bounds left of the green, only the best and bravest try for the green in two from an uneven lie. If you avoid the creek, pond, and fairway bunker you have earned a short approach into a small green.

Pro Tips

The longest of our five par 3 holes, this hole is 225 and slightly downhill. The right-to-left green is protected on both sides by bunkers but has an open front to allow players to lay up if they don’t have the distance. Take your par and run if you can.

Yardage by Tee:

BLUE 515

WHITE 501

GOLD 480

RED 439

Slope:

Blue 129 | White 127 | Gold 120

Pro Tips

This hole is just long enough to make it unreachable if you aren’t precise with your drive, yet short enough to tempt the best players into going for the green. The three fairway bunkers are perfectly placed to affect both your drive and second shot. Your approach better carry the whole way as this is the only green on the course with an elevated, fully-protected green.

Pro Tips

This dogleg right demands an accurate tee ball. The challenge on this tee shot is to hit the ball far enough but not too far. If you hit the ball too far you could be blocked out. If your ball does hit the mark, you have a straight shot to the green and a chance for birdie.

Pro Tips

The railroad hole has run along the Reading Rail Line for nearly 100 years. The tracks are on the left and obviously out of bounds. The fairway is generous, but bad shots are stiffly punished by the three fairway bunkers and water hazard. Your approach has to make it over a large bunker 20 yards short of a green that sits below fairway height.

Pro Tips

Precision is the name of the game here. A sharp dogleg right climbs back out of the old iron quarry to the elevated green. The long hitters have no advantage on this hole so long as you can carry the creek 210 yards off the tee. The longer you hit the tee ball the more sloped the fairway will be for your approach. Two well-placed shots can get you to the putting green if you are not too aggressive. If you miss the green to the right, you will find yourself climbing back into the quarry.
